Something Smells Fishy

One of the longest and largest rivers in the world is called the Amazon River. It is located in South America and is like 6400 kilometres long. That is four times longer than the entire country of New Zealand.Scientists believe that there are over 3000 different kinds of fish that live in the Amazon River. That is really alot of fish!

Fish Fact #1: The oldest known fish in the world is a 65 year old Australian lungfish. T

Fish Fact #2: Sharks are the only fish that have eyelids. T

Fish Fact #3: Starfish are a type of fish.  F

Fish Fact #4: Fish communicate with each other by making low-pitched sounds (moans, hisses, etc) F/T cause they do make sounds and communicate with body language

Fish Fact #5: Fish usually swim together in groups called ‘classes.’ F

    It's Leslie here, a member of the Summer Learning Journey team. You've done a good job of reading the information about fish and answering these true/false questions. Good for you!!

    Do you like to go to the seaside? And do you ever get a chance to fish?

    My family has a campsite beside a fresh water lake, about an hour's drive from our home. We don't fish, actually, but we swim and canoe and so we have many opportunities to see the fish species that live in our area.

    There are also many frogs that live in and around our lakes and there are many water fowl too! My favourite is a bird called a Loon. It has a haunting call and it's an excellent fisher - it dives under the water to catch its food and can stay down for several minutes. Amazing!!

    I hope you're enjoying these activities and that you'll also take time to have some fun outside on your summer holiday!!
